Getting there - by road The district lies on the A69 trunk road between the M6 at Carlisle and the A1(M) at Newcastle. In addition the A68, the tourist route to Scotland, runs from north of Scotch Corner on the A1, via Carter Bar, to Edinburgh through the Pennines, Hadrian's Wall Country and the Northumberland National Park.
